The word ‘crime’ juggles up many images to us (academician & Non-academician), mugging to murder, and cheating on taxes to serial killing, from cybercrime to terrorist attack.
Before we begin to explain the trends and patterns of crime in Bangladesh, we need to examine the specific definition of crime. Also, we need to learn common legal ingredients, or elements, found in criminological literature. According to criminologist Paul Tappan, “Crime is an intentional act or omission in violation of criminal law committed without defense or justification and sanctioned by the state for punishment as a felony or misdemeanor.”
If we consider the above-mentioned definition of crime, we see that there are seven basic requirements or elements of the crime. Which are the act, legality, harm, causation, menswear, concurrence, and punishment requirements. One of the most important characteristics of any crime is how often it is committed. From such figures, we can determine crime trends, the increases, and decreases of crime over.
